Getting Into College Without Taking the SAT

List of SAT / ACT Optional 4-Year Universities

Fair Test keeps a list of schools that have dispensed with the standardized testing requirement. Currently, that list includes 734 schools, 28 of which are ranked in the top 100 liberal arts colleges in America by U.S. News and World Report.

Notable colleges on the list include: Bard College, Sarah Lawrence College, Mount Holyoke, University of Texas at Austin.

Inclusion on the Fair Test list requires that the college be an accredited, bachelor’s degree-granting institution at which a large chunk or all of the applicants aren’t required to submit standardized test scores.

  1. Thanks for sharing this information! It has long been a problem for students from financially disadvantaged homes to afford the costs associated with taking the SAT and ACT~ building higher barriers to their accessing the opportunities at a college or university. (Few were ever informed about fee waivers for such things as standardized test costs and admissions application costs.) I would hope that withdrawing the requirement of taking standarized tests and admitting students on other performance criteria will shrink some of the socio-economic divides in higher education.

Can’t wait to share this with my students!
